History in brief: Frank Hudson

Frank Hudson has a long history of fine furniture making dating back to WWII. Three generations of the Hudson family have adopted the family's passion for excellence, passing it on from the generation before. With this fantastic history comes a wealth of experience, used to design and produce a stunning collection of furniture. Frank Hudson founded the company in 1947 and is highly regarded as a master-carver of his time. He began his carving career in 1917 as an apprentice for the then well-known Italian wood-carver Tulio Cain who set up a small factory in the local area, carving pieces for the furniture trade. He then moved on to work for Sir Henry Stone who was an expert in decorative furniture, before finally setting up on his own enterprise. During the war, demand for delicately carved furniture fell and Frank did his duty as a civilian ground engineer at Booker Airfield. When wartime was over, the company was called upon to help with the reconstruction of a devastated London, restoring famous buildings such as the beautiful panelling in Girdlers Hall. Successful commissions led to a further work and an impeccable reputation on which the business grew; even supplying furniture to HM Queen. Frank never gave up carving and carried on until eventually passing on the business to his son Rex.
